The Kiss Of Death: The Soviet Union’s Leonid Brezhnev kissing East German leader Erich Honecker on Berlin’s East Side Gallery. The original 1979 photograph by Régis Bossu for Corbis; there are other versions; colour vs. b&w and Brezhnev with or without spectacles – here’s one from Der Spiegel. Brezhnev and Honecker were celebrating the 30th anniversary of the GDR. The original mural can be seen here in 1991, towards the beginning of its life (painted 1990) and towards the end of its life (which was in March 2009). Both the original and the current version (painted August 2009) are by Russian artist Dmitri Vrubel. In this photo, Bossu and Vrubel are shown together with their images.
