Republican prisoners in Maghaberry, Portlaoise, and Hydebank [now officially Hydebank Wood] went on hunger strike in solidarity with Dr Issam Hijjawi-Bassalat, a Palestinian national residing in Edinburgh, who was arrested in the August swoop that also saw nine Saoradh members arrested in connection with the New IRA. Hijjawi attended one of the meetings set up by (MI5 agent) Dennis McFadden in July. Hijjawi went on hunger strike on September 16th in protest and his solitary confinement and was yesterday (2020-09-28) moved into the republican wing at Maghaberry and the hunger strikes ended. 5G is not just the next generation of cellular network! 5G weakens your immune system against coronavirus. Or 5G is how the virus spreads. Or 5G is the virus. Or coronavirus is a plot to keep people indoors while 5G is installed so that the tiny tracking chips that will be injected into people via the vaccinations developed by Bill Gates and/or George Soros can be activated. Luckily, a lone graffitist is here to warn us, though details on which conspiracy theory he adheres to are slim. Both images are from Northumberland Street.

“The people of Derry support the Donohoe family.” Free Derry Corner is given blue hearts in support of the campaign for more information about the disappearance of Belfast teenager Noah. See previously: #RememberMyNoah | Wide Blue Yonder | Gloria Ab Intus.
A small photograph of John Hume, which was added to the yellow version of the “NHS keyworkers” wall after his death on August 3rd was shifted from the centre to the left-hand side.

“Wear a mask – it hasn’t gone away, you know.” The last two weeks have seen two coronavirus deaths but 800 new cases (Health NI | BBC). Sınn Féın’s Gerry Adams remarked, on Sunday 13 August, 1995, that the IRA “haven’t gone away” (YouTube).

Probably a joke, but perhaps indicative of the competition between race and gender to be the dominant category of social analysis in the last few years. Class comes a distant third at the moment (but we’ll have a gallery of Workers’ Party posters tomorrow).

Being a human is hard and being a good human is harder. But art (specifically the Queens Of The Stone Age ‘God Is In The Radio’) gives us the inspiration to keep coming back for another try. Graffiti on a McHugh’s poster in the New Lodge.

Dominic Cummings, advisor to the ruling Conservative party in the UK government, was a source of controversy and widespread derision in May when he claimed that he had driven (during the coronavirus lockdown) from London to Durham in order to deliver his son to his grandparents and then to Barnard Castle to test his eyesight (WP). Protestations of disbelief and calls for his resignation were widespread, including the amendment to the east Belfast graffiti shown above: “We’re in this together – except for Cummings”.
