The Irish News last week reported the concerns of west Belfast parents whose children sometimes play under-10 football at Inverary Community Centre, in front of the UVF mural shown above, with the flags of Scotland and the United Kingdom in the background. East Belfast FC, which is based at Inverary, responded that the complaints are “contrived” and that all children are welcome at the ground.

Graffiti artist Jason Williams (REVOK) is paid homage by Psychonautes in Corporation Street. In 2018, H&M would sue Williams for use of a Brooklyn, NY piece by him (WaPo) before capitulating to a public outcry on-line.
Below is a wide shot of the street art in Corporation Street prior to being covered by Glenn Molloy’s gallery of famous faces. From left to right:

The ‘Revolution 1916’ exhibition – items from which were shown in Belfast earlier in February (see Revolution 1916) – opened in Dublin this weekend, including two murals (see this An Phoblacht article for one of them). The three painters also painted the mural above for the mini-exhibition in Andersonstown, reproducing the left-hand grouping from Walter Paget’s Birth Of The Irish Republic and putting the proclamation in the background. For Paget’s original oil painting and other version of it, see the painting’s Visual History page.

This new mural in Ballyduff commemorates the sacrifice of the Ulster Volunteers and Young Citizen Volunteers who fought in WWI and in particular their action in 1916; 2016 is the centenary of the Battle Of The Somme. The flag of (modern) UVF 1st East Antrim battalion flies on either side of the mural.
In the second image: the other new mural on this box was featured in If Needed, We Shall Rise Again

Five images of a new, multi-wall, mural in Ballyduff. The main panel shows WWI soldiers bowed over graves in Flanders surrounded by poppies. This is accompanied by the red-hand emblem of the Ulster Volunteers and the shamrock of the YCV.
On a side wall (see the fourth image) is a verse from American professor Moina Michael’s poem We Shall Keep The Faith: “We cherish too the poppy red that grows in fields where valour led; it seems to signal to the skies the blood of heroes never dies”. It was Michael who began to raise funds for servicemen by selling (silk) poppies, also adopted by the British Legion in 1921 (WP).

It will open in Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre on February 27th but before then it some of the items have been on tour, including stops in the Andersonstown Social Club (poster shown above | youtube video) and Gaelscoil Éanna in Glengormley (images). As a juxtaposition, “CIRA” (Continuity IRA) is on the electrical box to the left.
