The Irish Republican History Museum in Conway Mill board has returned to the so-called “International Wall” after the 1916 commemorative murals. The board is new (though it conveys the same information as before) and the painting of the cell has been given some details.
The museum is named for Eileen Hickey, a Provisional IRA member who served time in Armagh prison (An Phoblacht obituary), a cell of which is depicted in the image above. Hickey’s portrait is included in a mural opposite the museum.
Game Of Thrones character The Night King is one of the figures being painted (as the rain and snow allow!) in Bawnmore by Glen Molloy (Fb) for the Housing Executive.
Here is another piece from the side of the Turf Lodge Tenants’ Association & Social Club (Fb), in a similar style to Choice. The boxer is a nod to Holy Trinity boxing club across the street.
Manchester duo Nomad Clan (web) – seen painting Harland & Wolf at the Dirty Onion during Culture Night/Hit The North 2017 – returned to paint on the Newtownards Road. In keeping with the previous piece at this site – Deirdre Robb’s flax flowers – they painted a “female flax gatherer from a bygone era” (East Side Partnership).
Unfortunately, there’s no on-line information about the community/local scenes mural painted behind Teach Fhınn/Finn House in the New Lodge, which goes back to at least 2008. If you have any information, please get in touch.
Here are two portraits from the “Loyalist Avenue” mural and memorial garden hear Sandy Row. If you know anything about the people depicted, please leave a comment. The central figure (in the wide shot) is Gareth Morrison (see Big Henry). For the King William mural, see British And Proud.
The Accidental Theatre Company (web | Fb | tw) is an experimental theatre company that has taken over 12-13 Shaftesbury Square for the time being. Before Christmas they put on a Michelle & Arlene Holiday Special, with the two political leaders on the run from their self-imposed isolation (review by Alan In Belfast) but still trying to do a deal. The mural above is in the style of another holiday odd-couple road tale, the 1987 film Planes, Trains And Automobiles. Along with theatre duo Amadan, they are “keeping Belfast weird” – artwork by Verz (Fb), below.
