Armed With Taste

“Lovable lefty football fans” and brandishers of beer and spirits TUFAC (web | Fb | tw) were at the Sunflower last Friday and in the days that followed pasted a sticker or two around the city centre. This ‘refugees welcome‘ one shows the iconic ‘fleeing family’ dribbling a soccer ball as they go.

No More PSNI Cover-Ups

At a pre-inquest review yesterday (2021-12-08) lawyers for the PSNI defended the request for a Public Interest Immunity certificate regarding evidence in the case of Noah Donohoe (PA). This stencil on Divis Street says “not in our name” and asserts that “the public want full disclosure”. Below is graffiti on the Glen Road alleging that the PSNI is “hiding Noah’s killer”.

Previously on the PII request: For Noah.

They Prosecute Children

These images are from two campaigns on the railings of Groves-Reilly Corner (a.k.a. the site of the former Andersonstown RUC barracks, now named after a pair of campaigners against the use of plastic bullets, particularly against children). The focus in the first three is the arrest of children and their prosecution of children in Israeli military courts: Every year 700 Palestinian children are prosecuted in Israeli military courts. The US pages Israel $7 million a day.” (Board borrowed from SeaMAC.) And “9 years old – the age of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons. Is this democracy?” The final image is of a tarp sponsored by the ‘Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign’ (Fb | web) calling for “boycott, divestment sanctions” against “Israeli apartheid”.

Covid Government Lies

Three images of fringe opinions on the restrictions put in place during the coronavirus pandemic. Above, “Swann [is a] criminal” in (PUL) Cregagh – a reference to Health minister Robin Swann; a Newtownards man was arrested for making threats against Swann (Belfast Live); middle, “The media is the virus – Agenda 2030” in William Street, Londonderry – Agenda 2030 is a set of UN “sustainable development” goals which, to those in the know, is really a plan to enslave humanity, using the pandemic as a cover; last, “Covid gover[n]ment lies – banks own gov” on the Monagh Bypass in (CNR) west Belfast.

Hill Or High Water

The Community Rescue Service (web | Fb | tw) respond to calls about missing persons on both land and water. They were involved in the search for Noah Donohoe and in distributing PPE during the pandemic.

The mural was painted by Mickey Doherty – see the ‘in-progress’ images below – and reproduces a Philip Magowan photograph and a photo of founder Sean McCarry (Belfast Live) from the CRS web site. It is sponsored by Cab Tours Belfast (web). It was launched on November 27th. It replaces the Fidel Castro memorial mural.

Born Upon The Tide

Ballycastle harbour is home to the Rathlin Island ferry and a memorial plaque to Marconi for an 1898 transmission between the town and Rathlin, and Morton’s Fresh Fish and Fish ‘n’ Chips. The mural above includes Ballycastle fishermen Sean Morton Snr, Phillip Morton, Jack Coyles, Will Henry, and Jimmy Black.

The mural is by Oliver McParland (web).

Taigs Of All Stripes

“Taigs” of course are Catholics but targets apparently also include Muslim women and LGBTQ supporters (the skeleton on the right is wearing a “rainbow” gansey).

The images are from Larne (attempting to reach its potential) but the stickers appear to originate in Scotland (e.g. Daily Record).

Are You Sitting Comfortably?

JJB Sports is still closed (since 2012) and the Weatherspoons never materialised, so Leo Boyd’s (web | ig | Fb) art on the hoarding has expanded into a triptych with pieces on either side of No Signal. In June he added the piece on the right (shown below), and now on the left (shown above, with signature) is one in a series called “Are You Sitting Comfortably?” The Vault’s Christmas market is on this weekend at HQ on the Newtownards Road – tickets can be booked on Fb.

Unionists Protected

“Federal Ireland – unionists protected – RSF – Éıre Nua”. The “Éıre Nua” plan of the 70s and 80s (which remains policy of Republican Sinn Féin/Sınn Féın Poblachtach (web | tw), which split from Sınn Féın in 1986) calls for four parliaments, one in each of the four provinces, with a capital in Athlone. At the time of creation, this plan would have given Ulster Protestants a slim majority; in the present day, however, only 43% of the Ulster population is Protestant (WP).

The graffiti is at the bottom of St James’s.
