Yes Scotland/Viva Ireland

2014-09-08 YesScotlandBarracks+

Black Mountain/Slıabh Dubh’s ‘Viva Palestine‘ became ‘Viva Ireland’ – shown below – which in turn was quickly replaced with ‘Yes Scotland’, shown above as seen over the wall of the Springfield PSNI barracks from the (Protestant) Springmartin Road: a union flag and a St. Andrew’s (Scottish) saltire fly from houses in the foreground. These two flags are being used in the media to represent the opposing sides: the Saltire for ‘Yes’ and the Union flag for ‘No’. Scots go to the polls on Thursday the 18th; the two polls of the past week (You-Gov | TNS) suggest that the sides are running neck-and-neck.

Big Mac & Coke

2014-08-03 VivaPalestineCoke+

As part of the protest against Israeli action in Gaza, some – such as the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Movement – are calling for boycotts of US companies, because of their investment in Israel or because of the US’s support for Israel. Above, an advertising hoarding for Coke has been modified with “Viva Palestine” and “#shareacoke” has become “#killercoke”. Below, “”Boycott Israeli goods” has been written across the bottom of a McDonald’s hoarding at the junction of the Cavehill and Antrim Roads. McDonald’s is #9 in this list in the Christian Science Monitor.

On First Looking Into Keats & Chapman

2014-06-13 ReadMoreKeats+

Two shots of Keats & Chapman, booksellers, in North Street, and a second incarnation of ‘Read More’ by “Filth” (This Is Filth, Graham Watson). The original Read More was two units further down the street – that spot has been taken by JMK’s Venus (featured previously). A picture of the shop during trading hours (taken 2013-10) is below, with a little girl perhaps getting her first look into Keats & Chapman.
